A palliative chaplain, a church band and an extraordinary spiritual-care project
Ten musicians, months of preparation and a deep commitment to the hospice idea resulted in an emotional evening of music, texts, images and light.
The band had written, composed and arranged songs about death and life. Starklauf helped shape them into a spiritual concert experience that invites the audience to give “more life to the days” in view of human finitude.
The concert takes visitors on a journey into their own lives. Songs such as “Wenn du gehst” tell of love and grief around a woman whose life is interrupted by cancer, while other pieces invite communal singing and trust in a loving God even in difficult times. The title song “Lebensfarben” encourages people to play out all the colors of life.
The song “Den Himmel erden” honors paid and voluntary workers in palliative care and hospice work. Starklauf describes how they endure suffering, stand with people in need, watch, weep, laugh and pray with them in their final hours; in doing so, they bring heaven down to earth.
The CD and DVD were made possible through sponsors, so proceeds from sales benefit Hospizverein Bamberg. The project is described as both artistic and spiritual, contemplative and energetic, and as an invitation to ask what truly matters.
