Vorwort

Dear readers,

Engaging with the subjects of death and dying requires courage.

Far too often in our present-day society, shaped by speed and pressure to perform, we push aside the fact that our time is limited. The realization often comes late, or even too late. Yet only when we face the subjects of death and dying can we find answers to the questions connected with them: How do I want to die, if I can influence it? Whom do I want at my side in my final hours? What is my position on life-prolonging measures?

Of course, the dying process cannot be planned like a holiday or a working day. It differs from person to person, often comes unexpectedly, and confronts us with the limits of our earthly existence. But consciously engaging with it can bring relief - for ourselves and for our relatives. It can also give us the chance to embrace life more consciously again.

Palliative Care is, above all, an attitude, as Dr. Cuno writes on the Palliativ-Portal website. Columba also bears witness to this attitude.

With warm regards,
Emmi Zeulner
